Tartine Bread by Chad Robertson

I mean... this book. Pair it with a visit to one of the bakery locations and you're bound to become an avid bread maker. This book holds a special place in my heart. Today is my daughter's 3rd birthday, and she happened to be born around the corner from Tartine's Santa Monica location. My husband brought me food from said location in the hours and ultimately 4 full days following the birth, during which I was cooped up in the hospital recovering. This food brought me life. And for our daughter's one-month check-up, we returned to Tartine - this time all 3 of us together, sitting at a cute table outside. I had a quiche and side salad, which says a lot because I don't remember much else from that whirlwind of a time. 

My husband bought a shirt and this book during that visit. Fast forward 3 years and we were just in Sicily this past week for my best friend's wedding. My husband wore the Tartine shirt on our first day out and about. We didn't get 2 feet out the door of our Airbnb before two Sicilian locals noticed his shirt and stopped us to chat about Tartine - they had been to the San Francisco location and wondered if we were American. Small, small world. Bread finds a way to connect us all. 

I'm also not surprised that the one page we bookmarked is for pizza dough. We went through a big phase and I think that phase is going to come back real soon after whipping this book out again.
